Trade

In the 2006-2007 the Port of Eden recorded a 27 per cent increase in trade to 1.3 million mass tonnes. Hard woodchip and softwood log exports continued to represent the major commodity traded. The balance comprised cargoes from naval vessels, offshore oil & gas vessels and passenger ships. Commercial vessel visits remained steady at 71 ships, and there were 23 Royal Australian Navy vessel visits.

The trade in softwood logs has matured since construction of a Multi-Purpose Wharf in 2003. 200,000 mass tonnes of logs were exported this year, this is expected to increase again in 2007-2008. The construction of a cargo storage facility, adjacent to the Multi-Purpose Wharf, has facilitated this growth of softwood log exports through Eden. The cargo storage facility was opened in 2006.

The multi-purpose wharf, the Department of Defence munitions storage area and the new cargo storage facility have created significant trade and employment opportunities in the Eden/Monaro region, and this trend is expected to continue as new trade opportunities are realised.

The NSW Maritime welcomes enquiries from potential importers or exporters.
