New Cargo Facility Official Opening

Ports and Waterways Minister Joe Tripodi, today officially opened a new multi-million dollar cargo storage facility at Eden which will contribute to the creation of 50 new jobs.

Eden’s new multipurpose wharf, munitions storage area and the new cargo storage facility will together create 50 jobs for the region, with additional jobs likely as cargo trade increases.

The $4 million storage facility is now ready to handle its first cargo destined for export and will support the growth Eden has experienced recently.

The State government is investing in the Port Eden as an important link in the regional logistic chain.

The 50 extra jobs for the region show that there is a significant level of State Government investment in regional NSW towns, supporting the growth of regional economies and providing vital infrastructure.

Eden Port is responding to that support with record trade figures and vessel visits.

Over the past summer, seven cruise ships visited Eden and cargo exports have hit new record levels.

During the last calendar year Eden exported over 800,000 mass tonnes of woodchips to various south-east Asian ports and almost 60,000 mass tonnes of softwood logs were exported to Japan and Korea.

In addition, there was over 33,000 tonnes of pulpwood and wood waste products exported during the same period.

NSW Maritime provides ongoing support to the Port of Eden, including a Harbour Master and Marine Pilot, surveys and monitoring services, management of wharves and security, and a patrol boat for Twofold Bay.
