Dangerous Goods – Port of Eden
The supervision and handling of dangerous goods is carried out in accordance with the relevant Acts, Regulations, Codes and Guidelines including Part 11 of the NSW Dangerous Goods Regulations 1999 and the associated Australian Standard AS3846-2005, The Handling and Transport of Dangerous Cargoes in Port Areas.
The following points summarise the most salient requirements:-
- The Master of a vessel carrying Dangerous Goods, his Agent or their representative should make application to enter the Port of Eden, 48hrs prior to the required entry time. Application may be made by DGForm A Part A, accompanied by DGForm B (Dangerous Goods List).
- Application to handle, load or discharge dangerous goods within the port should be lodged 48 hours prior to the proposed time of handling. Application may be made by DBForm A Part B.
- The Master of a vessel should ensure dangerous goods conveyed into the port are stowed in compliance with the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (IMDG)
- Whilst in port limits, the Master of a vessel that has onboard Dangerous Goods should display the International Code of Signals Flag “B” by day and a red, all-round light by night
- Cleaning of a tank, hold or space that contains Dangerous Goods may not be carried out without the written permission of the Port Authority
- Dangerous Goods of Class 1 or 7 shall not be stored on a wharf
- If in quantities greater than 500kg, Dangerous Goods of Class 2.1, 2.3, 3, 4, 5.1, 6.1 or 8 that have been placed on a wharf shall be removed within 12 hours.
- Dangerous Goods of classes other than that specified above that have been placed on a wharf must be removed within 5 days.
- Until they are removed from a wharf, the owner of Dangerous Goods must employ a watchman to ensure regulations are complied with.
